Well guys. I cant say I didnt try.
My Civic started going a little slower than usual so I ordered up some spark plugs, wires, rotor and cap from my local Honda dealer. Took her in to my local shop and got her back later on that day. They informed me she was running sluggish due to only running on 3 cylinders. I still havent a clue why my check engine light never came on or why it never really showed any signs of having any real trouble, minus a major change in gas mileage and a minor sluggish feel uphill without much motivation.
After the engine tune up it was revving at the right limits at idle, if not a little higher due to some engine gunk that built up in the nonworking cyl. None of us has any clue how long my baby was really running on 3 cylinders. The next morning begins the story of how she got to sitting in the cold shop, on death row. Anyways, the next morning, my car didnt start on the first few tries, which ive NEVER had a problem with before. So finally I got her to start up and then, of all things, she chugged, and STALLED. I about cried. My car has never stalled on me before either and it was 7 am, pouring rain and my only other ride was out of town, so I called off work and set out to find out what happened.
I called the shop and explained what was going on and they told me to purposely flood the engine and wait an hour. So I did. I started the car, and as soon as I felt the engine chugging, (it felt like my car was trying to move through molasses instead of fresh oil which I knew she had), I gave the engine gas and she piped up and got to sputtering. I immediatly went to the gas station and filled the rest of my tank up with a Premium fuel mix because the shop stated that it may help. But on my way there, problem number 3 took ahold of my poor baby and still has ahold of her.
Now heres where im asking for help. This problem has never been heard of before. Honda even told me I was nuts and that it there's nothing they can do. When the car is cold, it runs fine, if not a little spirited, as all cars will. However, when my car heats up, it no longer will shift out of first gear. WTH!
My car has been torn apart. It has had the entire engine torn apart and cleaned out. It has a brand new distributor, which puts out 6 times what the factory one did. <- Honda is still steadfast teling me that its my distributor!!! All fluids have been properly flushed out. (engine oil, tranny fluid, coolant, brakes) I have had every sensor checked and rechecked in the car, all come back normal. Its got all new wiring. Brand new sensors. Im at my wits end and its been in the shop for a month this coming Saturday. If they cant fix it by Saturday theyre giving up on my poor car and im sol.
This is really my first car and ive put thousands of dollars into it. The transmission used to have rather hard shifts but theyve torn it apart as well, its not jammed. It shifts hard when its horsed, but its simply bad timing. Theyve reprogrammed that part too, so when its cold, it shifts like its brand new.
Im no expert but im not ready to give up on my car. So if theres anything any other person out there can think of, please, speak your mind. If I havent already tried it, im willing to. But to be blunt, the transmission is the same thing that dropped on my mom's accord. I thought that buying a Civic would be a great choice in a first car. Im losing faith. I had really hoped it would have been something stupid like a loose gas cap like an american car.
As it stands my 1995 Honda Civic EX is on death row. The transmission does not shift after the car warms up. The maximum speed attained is 25mph. The VTEC does kick on, it is sensing that it isnt moving and it knows that it has enough oil pressure and such because it doesnt shut itself off. Its not blowing smoke or sparks anymore as it used to when it misfired. The stalling problem was fixed, the engine was ruled out with all the new parts installed.
Has anyone else ever heard of such a thing happening to a Honda? ='[ |

I would definitely either replace the ECU and see how that works, or just invest the money you have left on a swap. |

man I've been into hondas a looong time an I gota say I'm stumped, damn! snds like sum messed up time dude, go do a motor swap, (upgrade to the GSR), U get new tranny, motor, ECU, so all that would be covered sounds like a simple case of a lemon (which being a honda is kinda weird though, but hey it can happen). if your a true honda fan man don give up with the oney youve spent Id a changed out already ........ though give U props for stubborness to not wuite hehehehehehe, dedication right there man. but dudes right, swap out an UPGRADE yaaaaaa hehehehehe.................... an if it was only runnin on 3 cylinders did they even do a compression ck to verify that statement?? an if at cold start it ran perfect, & at temp ran like crap, your were prob runnin lean on the air/fuel mix side............. hope you kept ur ride man ......... |
